CAVOK Privacy Policy

CAVOK Designs ("we," "us," "our") built CAVOK: Study Buddy ("CAVOK," "the app") to work without collecting anything about you. This policy explains exactly what that means.The short versionWe don't collect, receive, store, or have access to any of your personal data, your textbooks, or your questions. There is no account, no sign-in, and no server run by CAVOK Designs that your information passes through. Everything happens on your own Mac, unless you choose to turn on the optional deeper mode described below — and even then, your data goes directly from your device to the AI provider you chose, never through us.What CAVOK does on your deviceWhen you add a textbook (PDF) to CAVOK, the app reads it and builds a search index entirely on your Mac. When you ask a question, CAVOK's on-device model reads that index and answers using your textbook, on your Mac. None of this — your textbook, your questions, or the answers — ever leaves your device or is transmitted to CAVOK Designs. We have no server to send it to, and no way to see it even if we wanted to.Optional deeper mode (your own API key)CAVOK includes an optional "deeper mode" for harder questions, which uses an AI provider (such as Anthropic) through an API key that you provide yourself. If you turn this on:Your question is sent directly from your Mac to the provider you configured, using your own key and your own account with that provider. CAVOK Designs does not see, receive, log, or store that question or the answer. We do not operate any server in this path — the connection is directly between your device and the provider. That provider's own privacy policy and terms govern how they handle the data you send them (for example, Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy). Any billing for this usage is between you and that provider directly; CAVOK Designs is not involved and does not see your billing information.Deeper mode is off unless you turn it on and provide your own key.Accounts and sign-inCAVOK has no account system. There is no sign-up, no login, no username or password, and no way for us to identify you as a user of the app.Analytics, tracking, and advertisingWe do not use analytics services, tracking SDKs, or advertising frameworks of any kind in CAVOK. We do not know how many people use the app, what they ask it, or how they use it, beyond anonymous, aggregate download and sales counts provided by the Mac App Store itself (governed by Apple's own privacy policy, not ours).Data from the App StoreIf you purchase CAVOK through the Mac App Store, that transaction is handled entirely by Apple. We do not receive your name, payment details, or contact information from that purchase. Any information Apple collects is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.Children's privacyCAVOK does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Because we collect nothing, there is no data from any user — child or adult — for us to handle, store, or protect.Data retention and deletionSince CAVOK Designs never receives or stores your textbooks, questions, or personal information, there is nothing on our end to retain or delete. Everything CAVOK creates (your textbook index, your session history) lives only in the app's local storage on your own Mac, and you can delete it at any time by removing the textbook or the app itself.Changes to this policyIf CAVOK's data practices ever change — for example, if we add a feature that does involve a server we operate — we will update this policy and change the Effective Date above before that feature ships.
